New York is a leader in organic production. The most recent USDA Certified Organic Survey ranked NY third in the nation in number of certified organic farms and acreage, and seventh in value of production. For individual commodities, New York ranks first in number of organic dairy farms and third in the quantity of milk produced, second in both acreage and number of farms for field crops, and 6th in number of farms for vegetables.
